China Keen On Klang River Rehabilitation Project - Abdul Khalid

SHAH ALAM, July 20 (Bernama) -- China is keen to participate in the RM10 billion Klang River rehabilitation project that will provide the impetus to stimulate economic growth in Selangor.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said he was informed that a delegation from a government-linked company, China State Construction Engineering Corp (CSCEC), was scheduled to make a visit to Malaysia to conduct a survey and feasibility study on the project.

CSCEC is the largest construction company and the largest international general contractor in China.

"This is an exploratory exercise in order to ensure we have the right people and partners for our Klang River development.

"The delegation has agreed to visit Malaysia and conduct survey and feasibility study on the project in a professional manner and how it can add value to relevant stakeholders and interested parties," he told reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting here Wednesday.

The Selangor Government, in its economic stimulus package, has identified six major areas to spur economic growth.

They are cleaning and rehabilitating the Klang River; expanding the transportation system; upgrading and replacing water assets; urban renewal programme; reviving abandoned housing projects; and, increasing paddy yield.

South Korea keen on Klang river rehabilitation project, says Khalid

SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — South Korea is keen to participate in the RM20 billion Klang River rehabilitation project that will provide the impetus to stimulate economic growth in Selangor, the country’s most developed state.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said he was informed that South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will be visiting Malaysia next year and he (Khalid) is looking forward to meet him.

“South Korea is Selangor’s sixth largest FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) source, followed by Taiwan and Thailand,” he said when opening the 14th East Asian Entrepreneurs’ Summit 2009.

The Selangor Government ,in the recently unveiled economic stimulus package for the state, identified six major areas that are paramount to spur economic growth. The areas are cleaning and rehabilitating the Klang River, expanding the transportation system, upgrading and replacing water assets, urban renewal programme, reviving abandoned housing projects, and increasing paddy yield.

Khalid said the areas are expected to woo more than RM50 billion investments and create some 150,000 jobs.

The Menteri Besar said the state government will strive to attract investments in high value-added and technology-intensive projects.

He said the manufacturing sector remained the prime mover for Selangor’s economic growth.

“For the period between 2000 and July 2009, 2,812 manufacturing projects worth RM68 billion in total investment were approved. Of the total, RM35.43 billion were foreign investments,” he said.

The United States, Japan, Germany, Singapore and Britain are major FDI sources for Selangor, added Khalid, a former corporate figure. — Bernama

Four firms to carry out RM50b Klang River rehabilitation project

NST Online, March 15, 2010

KLANG: The Selangor government has appointed four companies to carry out a RM50 billion Klang River rehabilitation project. Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the entire project would take 15 years to complete.

"We are looking at cleaning up the river first within the first two to three years, which involves RM1 billion for treatment and another RM1 billion for development," he said after the launch of a Klang river carnival here on Saturday.

The companies are TSS-Mako Engineering Sdn Bhd, GJA Engineering and Construction, Wessex Water I-Bhd Consortium and DPZ Asia.

TSS-Mako, GJA Engineering and Wessex Water were selected from 37 companies, which had submitted their proposals in October last year after the project was advertised by the state government. DPZ Asia was appointed by the menteri besar.

TSS-Mako blends local talents with three of South Korea's biggest engineering firms.

GJA Engineering is a 100 per cent Bumiputera-owned company, which for the last three years has been involved in the development of design of projects for the Education Ministry.

Wessex Water is a sewage treatment company based in the UK and is owned by YTL Corp Bhd.

Khalid said more details of the project would be made public after a briefing for the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on March 29.

Wessex Water managing director Gareth Jones said the status of the Klang River now lies between a critical and bad stage.

"There is a lot of trash that needs to be weeded out but the river can be saved and improved," he said, adding that the company will start work by next year.

TSS-Mako Engineering Sdn Bhd managing director Ryan Park Youngsuk said the company's tasks included beautification work.

"We are looking at developing the area with a giant theme park in time to come.

"What is important now is to clean the river first."
Mula-mula RM10 billion. Kemudian meningkat RM20 billion bila Korea Selatan nak join. Lepas tu naik sampai RM50 billion!
